www.performinthecar.co.ukPassing your driving test opens up a whole new world of freedom and independence and this should be enjoyed responsibly. Young drivers should be aware that statistics show that drivers are most at risk of being involved in a collision in the first two years after they pass their test. As a result new drivers are 'on probation' for the first two years and if they get six penalty points in this time, they lose their license and can only get it back if they pass a re-test.

The facts

· In Dorset, 33 were killed and 379 were seriously injured on the roads between April 2006 and March 2007. During this time, 27% of fatal and 30% of serious injuries on Dorset’s roads happened to drivers aged between 16 and 25 years

· If you’re under the age of 25, you’re more likely to die or suffer serious injuries in a car (Source: RoSPA)

· One in five newly qualified drivers will have an accident in their first year of driving (Source: RoSPA)

Your life and those of your friends and family will change forever.

Dorset Safety Camera Partnership provides education for younger drivers. We provide an hour long presentation (Dying to Drive) which covers warnings on how to drive safely and what can happen during an accident. It is presented by our staff and people from the organisations we work in partnership with.
