DORSET ROAD SAFE LAUNCHED

Joint Initiative to Reduce Death and Serious Injury on

Dorset’s Roads

Organisations from across Dorset have joined forces to launch a new initiative focused on identifying a new multi-agency approach to reduce road collisions in Dorset.

Dorset Road Safe was officially launched on Sunday 13th July at the Blue Light Day, Dorset Police’s annual open day. Members of organisations from across the county showed their commitment to the initiative by signing a pledge at the event.

The organisations who have so far committed their support to Dorset Road Safe include, Dorset Police, Dorset County Council, Borough of Poole Council, Bournemouth Borough Council, Dorset Fire and Rescue Service, NHS South West, Highways Agency, Her Majesty’s Courts Service and the Crown Prosecution Service; with others expected to join in the future.

Through regular multi-agency meetings, Dorset Road Safe will provide its members with the opportunity to share best practice and work together to deliver a strategy for new road safety campaigns.  It will support the current initiatives being run across the county as well as facilitating greater joint working to achieve more results.

Pat Garrett, Head of Safety, Education and Enforcement Services for Dorset Police, comments: “The aim of Dorset Road Safe is to develop a co-ordinated approach that will enable us to continue to reduce death and serious injury on Dorset’s roads and exceed Government targets.  The main strength of the initiative will be working in partnership and sharing resources to enable a greater focus on educational measures aimed at vulnerable road user groups.”

By signing the Dorset Road Safe pledge, organisations from across the county have committed their support to the initiative.
