Update on the Chideock fine refund process – for speeding offences in Chideock between 1997 to 17 November 2007
The Dorset Safety Camera Partnership (DSCP) has now completed the process of writing to all drivers it has records for who were detected speeding on the Westbound safety camera in Chideock between 1997 to 17 November 2007.
Drivers who accepted a fixed penalty have been informed of the process to follow in order to apply for a refund of the fixed penalty fine and the removal of valid points from their driving licence. Those who had their cases heard in court have been written to by Her Majesty’s Court Services (HMCS).
In some cases, the address details held by the DSCP are now out of date or no longer applicable. The DSCP is currently conducting additional searches to try and locate these drivers, however if affected drivers have not yet received a letter, they should download and complete this form and send it directly to the DSCP (click here to download the website claim form)
As the public may be aware, this approach has been adopted as no legal direction has been given on applying the court judgement to any other case. The DSCP feels that offering those affected the chance to apply for a refund is the right thing to do, but because of the absence of any legal direction to do so, the process is not allowed to be a fully automated one which does not require applications to be made.
Update on progress to date (as of 31st October 2009):
Of the 24,899 speeding cases affected by the Crown Court judgement, 6,716 refund requests have been received and processed by the DSCP. This includes the removal of live points from 573 driving licences by the DVLA.
