When clusters of collisions are identified, a polygon is plotted on a map encompassing those collisions.
For a fixed camera site the polygon area can be a minimum of 400 metres to a maximum of 1.5 kilometres in length. The fixed camera is then placed at the most suitable location taking into account factors such as the local road conditions, services such as power supply available and visibility etc within the polygon area. The Partnership which includes the councils are very involved in the positioning of fixed camera sites to ensure a maximum road safety impact is achieved. For a mobile camera site the polygon area can be a minimum of 400 metres to a maximum of 5 kilometres in length. The mobile camera is then placed at the most suitable location on the road taking into account factors such as local conditions, space available to set up the camera and visibility etc within the polygon area. The sites including site lengths will remain the same as long as the site still meets the criteria for enforcement - all sites are reviewed on a 6 monthly basis. Camera site statistics are available on the FOI Publication list. |
