Most Popular Requests - Threshold of cameras or 'trigger speed' E-mail
Threshold speeds for cameras within any County are classed as exempt under Section 31 of the FOI Act - Law Enforcement - Section A and B;

This category of information will be exempted nationally because of the concern that the information contains working practices that, if known, would have an impact on operational policing.

Following application of the public interest test the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) concluded that: "It is considered that the public interest in disclosing Force speeding thresholds is outweighed by the potential consequences to law enforcement and the impact of such a release on road safety measures and consequently the safety of the public at large."

The Chief Constable decides the Thresholds for Mobile and Static Cameras following the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) guidance of 10% plus 2 for each Speed Limit.

For example, following that guidance, the threshold within a 30 mile an hour speed limit zone would be calculated at 30 + 3 (i.e. 10% of 30) + 2 = 35 miles per hour.

Each Chief Constable then may decide whether or not to follow that guidance and at what threshold to set cameras within his/her County.
