Driver Awareness Scheme (DAS) Terms and Conditions
These are the Terms and Conditions under which the Driver Awareness Scheme (DAS) operates, please ensure that you read these prior to accepting the offer of the Driver Awareness Scheme course. Please read sections 1 and 2 if you wish to attend a webinar course.
By accepting the offer of a Driver Awareness Scheme course, it is understood that individuals have agreed to accept these terms and conditions and agree to their data being held for 3 years in order to perform eligibility checks for future offences.
Drivers who fail to comply with the Terms and Conditions will have their offence referred to the Fixed Penalty or Prosecution process dependent on eligibility criteria.
Section 1 – General Terms and Conditions
Eligibility
The offer of a Driver Awareness Scheme course is a decision made by the Driver Awareness Scheme office on behalf of Dorset Police. Any decisions made are final. Mitigation for the offence cannot and will not be considered.
Participation is only available to those drivers who are notified by letter from the Driver Awareness Scheme office and have not taken part on another occasion within the last three years in Dorset and are not currently waiting to attend a Driver Awareness Scheme course in respect of any other offence.
Failure to respond to any correspondence within the time scale provided will result in the offence being referred back to the Fixed Penalty or Prosecution process dependent on eligibility criteria and the offer of a Driver Awareness Scheme course will be withdrawn.
Payment
Payment must be made in full at the time of booking, we do not offer instalment plans to pay for a Driver Awareness Scheme course.
Payment can be made either online at www.dorsetroadsafe.org.uk or by cheque/postal order made payable to PCC Dorset.
If your cheque payment is declined by your bank for any reason, the course will be cancelled as a means of disposal which will result in the offence being referred to the Fixed Penalty or Prosecution process dependant on eligibility criteria.
Once payment has been made you have accepted the offer of a Driver Awareness Scheme course and the payment is non-refundable or transferable.
Bookings and Rebooking
A Driver Awareness Scheme course needs to be attended within 3 months of your offence date.
Failure to book within the specified time on your offer letter will result in the offer of a Driver Awareness Scheme course being withdrawn and the offence being referred back to the Fixed Penalty or Prosecution process dependent on eligibility criteria.
If you make payment by cheque your course will be booked using the availability given on your completed acceptance form where possible depending on the course completion date and the number of unavailable dates given.
If you make payment online, you will get the opportunity to book a suitable course within your course completion date (3 months from offence date).
Bookings cannot be transferred to any other date unless through exceptional circumstances with documentary evidence being provided.
If we have to reschedule your course for any reason, we will contact you as soon as reasonably possible and rebook your course for an alternative date subject to availability.
Attendance on this course has been accepted as an alternative to a Fixed Penalty or Prosecution. To the extent permitted by law, Dorset Police accept no liability for any financial or other loss caused directly or indirectly by the cancellation of a course.
Special Requirements
If you require any assistance (whether it is associated with a disability or not) you must notify us prior to attendance to enable us time to put the assistance in place.
If you require a BSL or language interpreter, you must attend a classroom course and notify us at the time of booking so we can make arrangements for an interpreter to attend your course.
If you will need to breastfeed your child during the course, please contact our office so we can make the tutors aware of your needs.
- Classroom course – We will book you into a venue where there is a café or space outside of the classroom for you to breastfeed or express milk. However, you will need to bring someone to look after the baby while you are in the classroom.
- Webinar course – You can breastfeed or express milk whilst on the course, please ensure that your camera shows your facial profile, and you mute your microphone whilst feeding. However, you will need to have someone to look after the baby while you are attending the course.
Attendance
To gain access to the course, participants MUST bring their photo card Driving licence or an old style licence plus a form of photographic ID.
Participants must arrive at or log on to the course 20 minutes prior to the scheduled course start time and attend the entire course. Please note that course registration will close 5 minutes prior to the course start time. Failure to log onto or arrive at the course within this time frame will result in you being refused admittance to the course and the offence will be referred back to the Fixed Penalty or Prosecution process dependent on eligibility criteria. No refund of course fees will be given in this situation.
No babies, children or animals are permitted on the course with the exception of assistance dogs with prior agreement.
To successfully complete the course, you must fully engage in all modules, participate in all discussions, polls and quizzes, show a positive attitude and be committed to behaviour change about road safety.
If someone attends in lieu of yourself, you will immediately go back into the Criminal Justice System for consideration of prosecution.
Failure to attend your scheduled course will result in non-completion, the offer of the Driver Awareness Scheme course withdrawn, and the offence will be referred back to the Fixed Penalty or Prosecution process dependant on eligibility criteria. No refund of original fees will be made.
Standards of Behaviour
Attendees should conduct themselves in a respectful manner to the course trainers and others attending the course.
Disruptive behaviour, intoxication, wilful non-compliance or wilful misbehaviour whilst on a course is unacceptable.
Using a mobile phone is prohibited throughout the course as this can cause disruption and is a distraction in a learning environment. As mobile technology can be used for recording and photography there is also a Safeguarding and Data Protection issue.
Course attendees should not wear clothing which is likely to cause embarrassment or offence to others delivering or attending a course.
Participants whose behaviour is deemed to be unacceptable will be warned of this. Should this behaviour continue to be unacceptable they will be asked to leave the course. No refund of course fees will be given and the offence will be referred back to the Fixed Penalty or Prosecution process dependent on eligibility criteria.
Section 2 – Online Course Terms and Conditions
Attendance
The attendance on the online course is for use by the participant only and registration information should not be forwarded on to third parties; doing so may hinder access, as webinar entry is by prior registration only. Similarly, the materials are for use by the participant only and should not be forwarded on to third parties.
You must complete the mandatory pre-course workbook prior to the course start time, as this will form part of the requirement and reference will be made to it during the course. The workbook does not need to be printed or returned.
Technology
You must have access to a computer or mobile device using either Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge with Webcam (you may need to download an app to use your camera as a webcam depending on your device) and microphone capability (mobile phones are not ideal as they have small screens). The device needs to be able to run a slideshow and videos. Work computers or devices should NOT be used as company firewalls may prevent you from accessing the course. If you have been unable to join the course, please contact the Central Ticket Office on 01202 227549.
If either the participant or tutor experiences technology problems which results in the course not being completed, you will need to contact the office to rebook your course for an alternative date within our course availability at that time. Dorset Police cannot be held responsible for any financial loss incurred.
Online course participation may require you to configure your software settings on your device upon first use or require you to download the software for your operating system.
The confidentiality and security of the course materials issued by Dorset Police is the responsibility of the participant. If you believe that a third party has obtained details in an unauthorised manner, please promptly notify the Driver Awareness Scheme office on 01202 227549
Online course recording
The virtual event facility includes a feature that allows audio and any documents and other materials exchanged or viewed during the session to be recorded for internal training purposes only. All recordings are held on a stand-alone device for a period not longer than 3 months and then deleted. By joining a session, you automatically consent to such recordings. If you do not consent to the recording, please contact the Driver Awareness Scheme office to discuss your concerns in good time prior to the webinar date.
You MUST NOT record, photograph, or screenshot any part of the course content including webcam displays. Doing so you will forfeit the course as a method of disposal and be referred back to the Fixed Penalty or Prosecution process dependent on eligibility criteria and the course fee will not be refunded.
Privacy Policy
In connection with the operation of the online course we will ask you to provide us with information that personally identifies you or allows us to contact you ("Personal Information") when you register for the use of the service. The Personal Information that you provide us with in these circumstances will be provided to audio- and web-conferencing services to assist in processing the information, for the sole purpose of enabling them to operate and deliver the webinar service. This information will not be disclosed or shared with others and restricted to providing the contracted services of the webinar.
Dorset Police understand users' need for privacy when using the web for communications and the utmost care in providing the highest levels of security possible. The Personal Information that Dorset Police collect from course registrants is stored in operating environments that employ reasonable security measures and that are not available to the general public. Dorset Police and the provider of the audio- and web-conferencing services are not responsible for unauthorised access to such information by hackers or others that obtain access through illegal measures.
Dorset Police reserve the right to refuse access or expel anyone for not complying with this terms and conditions.
Anyone in breach of the Terms and Conditions will have their Driver Awareness Scheme course offer withdrawn and referred back to the Fixed Penalty or Prosecution process dependent on eligibility criteria.
Confidentiality will be maintained at all times unless we believe an offence is disclosed.
Safer Better Driving (SBD) Terms and Conditions
These are the Terms and Conditions under which the Safer Better Driving (SBD) course operates, please ensure that you read these prior to accepting the offer of the Safer Better Driving course.
By accepting the offer of an Safer Better Driving course, it is understood that individuals have agreed to accept these terms and conditions and agree to their data being held for 3 years in order to perform eligibility checks for future offences.
Drivers who fail to comply with the Terms and Conditions will have their offence referred back to the Traffic Prosecutions Unit for consideration of prosecution.
